Happy Father's Day

Happy Father’s Day

A father is a superhero for his child. He is the one who is responsible for welcoming his youngster on the earth. They are the main support system of a family. From earning bread-butter for the family to holding every member of the family in place, from pampering the children with their favorite things to keeping them in discipline with a little scolding. A father compromises his desires and fulfills others’ because, for him, his family and children are more important. While giving endless love and affection, he never asks for anything in return. But even if he did, one can never repay our fathers for what they did for us.

Father’s Day: History

The idea behind Father’s Day can be traced back to 1910. According to beliefs, the brain behind this day is Mrs. Sanora Smart Dodd. Along with her five siblings, Sanora was brought up by her father after their mother died. Her father never remarried nor placed the children under someone’s care. Sanora’s father, William Jackson Smart was a civil war veteran. Dodd was grateful to her father and wanted to honor him.

Her great idea of Father’s Day strokes her after hearing a sermon about Mother’s Day at a church. So she approached her pastor and proposed that there should be a day for honoring the fathers, which would mirror Mother’s Day. Dodd proposed to have the Father’s Day to be observed in June, which was her father’s birthday month.

In 1913, Congress received a bill aiming at recognizing Father’s Day but later rejected with a fear that it would become just another commercialized holiday. In 1966, when many men left their families to fight in World War II, then the real contribution of fathers’ was felt. President Lyndon proclaimed that Father’s Day is to be observed on the third Sunday in June in the USA. In 1972, President Richard signed it into law as a permanent national holiday.
